Run the Standards Engine

Pick your event, enter your PB and see the US college level you could compete at. Times are only one part of what coaches look at.

This shows the level your times suggest you could compete at. Your overall scholarship package is a combination of multiple factors: your second events, your grades, your attitude and how you come across during the recruitment process, and how long you have before you would start. Our free assessment looks at all of this.

How to read the tables

Each column shows the level of programme a mark suggests you could potentially compete at, from D1 top (Power 4 and top-25 programmes) and large and mid-major Division I schools, through large and smaller Division II schools, to NAIA and junior college (JUCO). Your overall scholarship package at any level is a combination of multiple factors, not just your times.

Marks are outdoor with fully automatic timing unless marked indoor. Field events are in metres with senior implements. These are guides, not guarantees: grades, second events, attitude, the recruitment process and timing all matter.

Frequently asked questions

What 400m time do you need for a track scholarship?

As a guide, men running around 48.00 are in range for leading Division II programmes and around 47.50 for large Division I programmes; for women it is around 55.50 and 54.50. Your overall scholarship package at any level is a combination of factors, including your grades, attitude, second events and how your recruitment process goes.

How much is a track and field scholarship worth?

Every package is different. Your marks suggest the level you could compete at; your overall scholarship package is then a combination of your grades, attitude, second events and timing. The quickest way to find out what is realistic for you is a free assessment with our team.

Can UK, Australian and New Zealand athletes get full scholarships?

Yes. International athletes are recruited heavily in track and field, especially in middle distance, steeplechase, jumps and throws.

Do times alone decide whether I get a scholarship?

No. Coaches also weigh your grades and NCAA eligibility, your second events, your attitude and how you come across during recruitment, event needs on their roster and how long you have before you would start. That is why the free assessment looks at your full profile, not just your PB.

Are these indoor or outdoor marks?

All marks are outdoor with fully automatic timing, except the 60m and 60m hurdles, which are indoor events. Throws use senior implements.

What times do you need to go D1 in track?

As a guide for mid-major Division I programmes, men need around 10.75 for 100m, 21.60 for 200m, 48.50 for 400m, 1:52.0 for 800m, 3:53 for 1500m and 14:40 for 5000m. Women need around 11.90, 24.20, 56.00, 2:12.0, 4:32 and 17:10. Top Power 4 programmes look for faster marks, which you can see in the tables above and on each event page.

What are D2 track and field times?

For leading Division II programmes, men need around 10.65 for 100m, 21.40 for 200m, 48.00 for 400m, 1:51.0 for 800m and 3:55 for 1500m, and women around 11.80, 24.10, 55.50, 2:10.5 and 4:30. Smaller Division II programmes recruit on slightly slower marks, shown in the D2 small column above.

What are the NAIA track standards?

The NAIA publishes qualifying standards for its national championships each year, and those are different from recruiting levels. As a recruiting guide, NAIA programmes look for men around 11.00 for 100m, 50.00 for 400m, 1:56.0 for 800m, 4:05 for 1500m and 15:15 for 5000m, and women around 12.30, 58.50, 2:17.0, 4:48 and 18:10.

Can you get a full ride for track and field?

Yes. Full scholarships are possible at every level, and we have placed athletes on full scholarships at programmes such as Texas A&M and Iowa State. Most track and cross country scholarships are partial, though, and many athletes combine athletic money with academic awards. The size of an offer depends on your marks, your grades and the programme's budget.

How many track and field scholarships are there?

Since July 2025, NCAA Division I schools in the House settlement can fund every athlete on the roster, up to 45 in track and field and 17 in cross country. Before that, Division I track and cross country shared a limit of 12.6 scholarships for men and 18 for women. Division II, NAIA and junior college programmes still work to their own scholarship limits.

Is it hard to get a track scholarship?

It depends on your marks, your grades and how you approach coaches. With the right preparation it is very achievable: 57% of the athletes we place compete in NCAA Division I and 36% in Division II, with the rest in the NAIA or junior college, and athletes who complete an application with us receive an average of 11 offers.

How do I get a track scholarship from the UK, Australia or New Zealand?

Check your marks against the standards above, then check your academic eligibility: NCAA Division I needs 16 approved core courses and a 2.3 core GPA, and the NAIA needs a 2.3 GPA or two of its other criteria. Register with the NCAA or NAIA Eligibility Center, get your marks and video in front of the right coaches, and compare offers. A free assessment with us is the quickest way to see where you stand.
