Junior college (NJCAA) track and field programmes: the full list

Loading the list…

Junior colleges (NJCAA) are two-year colleges that compete in their own national championships and send many athletes on to NCAA Division I and II programmes with scholarships. The junior college route suits athletes whose marks are developing, whose grades need two years of US college credits before an NCAA programme will take them, or who want to compete in the US without waiting for an NCAA offer. Junior college programmes recruit around 11.15 (men) and 12.45 (women) in the 100m, 1:57 and 2:19 in the 800m, and 15:30 and 18:25 in the 5000m, and many offer full or partial scholarships.

The list below is every NJCAA programme OSS works with. Two years at a well-run junior college, with improving marks and a US transcript, is one of the most reliable ways we have seen athletes reach a Division I scholarship.

Questions families ask

What is a junior college in US athletics?

A junior college is a two-year college. NJCAA junior colleges run competitive track and field programmes with scholarships, and athletes typically transfer to a four-year NCAA or NAIA university after two years, often with a bigger scholarship than they could have won straight from school.

Do junior colleges give athletics scholarships?

Yes. Many NJCAA programmes offer full or partial athletic scholarships, and the entry standards and academic requirements are lower than NCAA Division I.

Can I transfer from a junior college to a Division I university?

Yes, that is the point of the route. Athletes who improve their marks and complete their credits at a junior college are recruited by Division I and II coaches every year, and OSS supports athletes through the transfer.
