Boston Bound: University Life, Personal Bests, and the Real Magic of OSS Trips

Is the magic real, or is it just hype?

After our most recent trip, it’s safe to say… it’s very real.

At Olympic Sports Scholarships, we talk a lot about opportunity: the chance for athletes to experience the U.S. college environment, compete at a high level, and begin to picture what their future could look like. But nothing brings that to life quite like being there in person.

Recently, we took a group of 17 athletes out to Boston, and what followed was an unforgettable long weekend of university exposure, elite-level athletics, team bonding, and breakthrough performances.

A few days of university insights

One of the highlights of the trip was giving athletes the opportunity to step inside the world of U.S. college sport and academics.

The group toured both Boston University and Harvard University, experiencing everything from campus life to the atmosphere surrounding collegiate athletics in one of America’s most historic sporting cities.

For many athletes, these tours are about more than sightseeing; they’re about seeing what’s possible. Walking through world-class facilities, learning what student-athlete life looks like, and imagining themselves studying and competing in the U.S. is often a turning point.

Elite Competition and Inspiration Up Close

The trip wasn’t just about campuses. It was also about competing at the highest level.

We began with a pre-meet session, allowing athletes to get comfortable on the track, soak up the environment, and prepare mentally for race weekend. It also gave them the chance to watch elite athletes up close, including Cam Myers, and experience the energy of top-level competition firsthand.

Moments like these are powerful reminders of what dedication, opportunity, and the right pathway can lead to.

The racing delivered exactly what we hoped for: outstanding performances, personal breakthroughs, and a real showcase of the athletes’ hard work.

Girls’ Race Day

The girls set the tone early with some excellent runs across the board.

A standout performance came from Nancy, who produced a gutsy, determined race to clock a huge 5k personal best, improving by over 25 seconds, with a 3k PB along the way. A performance built on confidence, commitment, and the willingness to push through discomfort — exactly what these experiences are all about.

Boys’ Race Day

The following day, it was the boys’ turn, and the results were just as impressive.

There were strong performances across the group, particularly in the 3k, where every athlete ran a personal best. A special mention goes to Jack, who delivered a standout improvement of 27 seconds, showing just how much progress can happen when preparation meets the right competitive environment.

More than just racing

Of course, OSS trips are never only about times on a results sheet.

They’re about the full experience: building independence, confidence, and community.

We wrapped up the week with a snowy morning run, a final tour of Harvard, and a relaxed afternoon of sightseeing, recovery work, and (of course) pizza. The perfect way to reflect on everything the athletes had achieved and experienced together.

The real value of these trips

An unforgettable week, and a brilliant reminder of what these trips can offer.

For athletes, it’s a chance to:

  • Compete in a high-performance environment

  • Experience U.S. university life first-hand

  • Build confidence and independence

  • Gain exposure and motivation for the recruiting journey

  • Create memories that last far beyond one race weekend

The magic isn’t hype, it’s real. And for many athletes, it’s only the beginning.

What’s next?

Boston was an incredible reminder of what these experiences can offer, and we’re only just getting started.

Our next major trip takes us to Florida in April, giving athletes another exciting opportunity to experience U.S. university life, compete in a high-performance environment, and take meaningful steps forward in their scholarship journey.
